We'd like to be included in your prayers in the next week or so. We learned today that a freeway spur is being planned in our area and that the currently favored corridor (#4) may well require the bulldozing of our home (not to mention our church, a couple of schools, and the homes of most of our ward members). I've included the link for a map of the proposed corridor and three alternatives which are also being considered (but which are not expected to bring the economic benefits of corridor #4). The deadline for community comment is June 10th. The selection of a corridor will occurr some time after that. Thank you!

Good Grief! How could people even think of such a thing? Do the other choices mean demolishing peoples homes and schools? Such a nightmare!
Corridor 3 would also tear down houses, but not as many. Corridors 1 and 2 won't tear down any that we know of, but people don't think they're as "economically" exciting.
Yeah...wonder what they would think if it were their new homes!
Are you preparing to argue your case? You'll likely have to be organized as a group. Individual comments won't carry much weight unless you are all working together. Every single household must say something. Remember the Whos in Whoville? Every voice is important.
Even the kids! It's their homes and schools too! They could pack a considerable influence. Have you contacted the media yet? Sounds like an excellent local interest story.
Derek typed up a flyer and had 700 copies printed on bright yellow paper. We're distributing them with ward members tonight. There's a public meeting tomorrow.
It's not my intent to diminish the seriousness of things but when I looked at the map I calculated that the corridors are pretty wide. They don't really take over the whole corridor but use that method to indicate the general direction they would like to go. Those corridors were showing up to 6 or 8 miles wide from what I could make out. They normally try to pick something that has the least relocations because it costs them so much more to buy out developed real estate. What they will end up with is usually 1/4 mile wide max.
Actually, Dad, corridor #4 on that map has Kenworthy as its western boundary and Schnepf as its eastern boundary. Those roads are one mile apart. Even if a quarter mile-wide right-of-way in that corridor missed us, we would be in the shadow of the freeway. Our property value would almost certainly decrease, and we'd have the freeway noise and light to live with.
Word to that. No good.
Invite the media to your meeting? That is what has been done for our flood control problem to get serious consideration. Letters to the newspapers explaining the issue? Good Luck.
Someone in our ward called at least 2 news stations. My mom was going to call some. We're also inviting the Queen Creek Mayor. We got some good news last night. The City of Mesa wants corridor #2 (which is the one we want). Mesa is a much more significant city than ours and they already have funding (which we don't). So hopefully Mesa gets their way!
